MUSIC

If you know, you know.

Hearing Doc Watson's a capella version of "Down in the Valley to Pray" was a crossroads moment for me. The cry of a whole culture can be heard in his powerful voice. This collection of simple songs for piano and voice is indebted to it.

I recently unearthed music I wrote for an unreleased short film. In it, the story's hapless hero has forgotten where his partner will be on her birthday and has no choice but to get…somewhere.

Andrew asked me to play piano for this recording of thoughtful arrangements. It also features the great drummer Steve Davis.

A setting of a poem by Weldon Kees whose work I admire greatly. This links to my Soundcloud page where I post sketches, short pieces and improvisations.

A recital I did a few years ago. In addition to a great deal of jazz piano, the recital features original music for three different vocalists, one of them me!

Two of my piano etudes with an interleaved improvisation.
